In short

Nothing on this site is a binding quote, and nothing we say about a photograph is either. A real price comes from the piece being in front of us. Everything else below is the ordinary business of running a website.

Using this site

Read it, use it, get in touch. That is what it is for, and using it means you accept what is on this page. If you would rather not, the phone number in the footer works just as well and always will.

What we ask in return is short:

  • Do not try to break the site or the contact form, or send anything through it designed to cause harm.
  • Do not copy the pages wholesale onto somewhere else. Reading, linking and quoting are all fine.
  • Do not use the form for anything unlawful or threatening, or for anything that is not about a piece of furniture.

That is the whole list.

What is on this site

A description of what the shop does, the techniques it works in, photographs of the kind of pieces that come through, an address, and a phone number. It is a description of a working furniture repair shop. It is not a catalogue, there are no prices on it, and nothing here is an offer that can be accepted by clicking something.

We keep it accurate and we correct what we find wrong. It still describes a workshop, and workshops move: a method we no longer take on, a photograph of a piece finished a long time ago, hours that shift around a holiday. If a detail on this site matters to a decision you are about to make, ask us and get the answer from a person.

Estimates and quotations

Nothing on this site is a quote. Nothing said in reply to photographs is a quote either. This is the one part of this page worth reading properly.

We are glad to look at photographs and tell you what a piece is likely to need and what that sort of work usually runs to. That is a view formed at a distance, from pictures, and it is worth what a view formed at a distance is worth. Furniture hides things. A loose joint is sometimes a loose joint and sometimes the joint that comes apart in your hands and shows a previous repair made in the wrong glue. Veneer lifting in one corner turns out to be lifting in four. A finish that photographs like shellac turns out to be something a previous owner brushed on in 1974, and it has to come off before anything else can begin.

A price becomes real when the piece is in front of us, we have opened it up enough to know what we are dealing with, and we have written the figure down for you. Until that happens, treat any number you have been given as an estimate and expect it to move once the piece arrives.

Photographs you send us

Photographs you send stay yours. Sending them gives us permission to look at them, keep them with your enquiry, and use them to work out what your piece needs. Nothing beyond that.

We will not publish your photographs, on this site or anywhere else, without asking you first in plain words and getting an answer. If a piece comes out well and we would like to show it, we will ask. Saying no is free and changes nothing about the work or the price.

Send us photographs you have the right to send. If the piece belongs to somebody else, that is a conversation to have with them, not with us.

What happens to the photographs technically is in the privacy policy.

The words and pictures on this site

The text, the artwork and the layout of this site belong to Furniture Repair Crown or to the people who made them for us, and the photographs are either ours or licensed for our use. Read the site, link to it, print a page, quote a sentence with a link back. All of that is welcome.

What is not welcome is copying the pages onto another site, which in this trade happens more than you would think. The shop’s name, the crown and the wordmark are ours and are not to be used to suggest a connection that does not exist.

Availability and accuracy

The site is a set of static files on a good host, which is about as reliable as the web gets, but nothing is up every minute of every day. We do not promise the site will be available, and there is no support desk behind it. If the site is down and you need the shop, call.

We write what is here carefully and we fix what we find wrong. We do not promise it is complete, or that every detail is current on the day you happen to read it. This page and the privacy policy both carry a date at the top so you can see how old they are.

Where our responsibility ends

This is a website, and our responsibility for it is limited to the website.

If something here turns out to be wrong or out of date and you lose money or time because of it, that is not something we can be held to. If the site is down at the moment you needed it, likewise. Nothing on this site is professional advice about your particular piece, and a page read at a distance is no substitute for somebody looking at the actual furniture.

None of that touches the work itself. When a piece of yours is repaired in this shop, our responsibility for that work is whatever we agreed with you and whatever Texas law requires, and nothing on this page reduces it by a fraction. We are not disclaiming the repair. We are disclaiming the web page.

What these terms do not cover

They are terms for using a website, and that is all they are.

They say nothing about deposits, how long a piece may sit in the shop, what happens to work nobody comes back for, insurance, or who carries the risk while your furniture is under our roof. Those questions matter far more than anything on this page, and the honest place for them is what we agree with you when the work is commissioned, not the small print of a website.

Ask about any of them before you leave a piece with us and you will get a straight answer.

Governing law

Furniture Repair Crown trades from Wylie, Texas. Texas law governs these terms, and any dispute about them belongs in the Texas courts.

Changes to these terms

If they change, this page changes and the date at the top changes with it. Carrying on using the site after that means the newer version is the one that applies. There is no notification list, so the date is the notice.

How to reach us

Questions about anything on this page go to the same place as everything else. A person reads it.
